 Christan Bale as The Batman
 4 and 1/2 stars of 5
After Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) is pulled from the Gotham sewers barely alive, he tells of a horrifying discovery. He had uncovered an underground army commanded by the masked villain Bane (Tom Hardy) who like Bruce, is a member of the League Of Shadows; who claims he is “Gotham’s reckoning”.  After hearing the news, Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) A.K.A “The Batman”, resurfaces after disappearing for nearly eight years to protect Gotham from the masked foe; despite the city labeling him an enemy after taking the blame for Harvey Dents crimes. Bruce turns over some rocks, and locates Bane in his hideout, the sewers, and attempts to kill him. However unlike Bruce’s past opponents, Bane is far more physically superior to Bruce. After Bane hammers on Bruce, he imprisons him in “Hell on Earth” where the only escape is a nearly impossible vertical climb; which only one man has ever completed and survived - Bane. Shortly after imprisoning The Batman, Bane seals off all means off commute out of Gotham and places a nuclear bomb in a roaming vehicle somewhere in Gotham. The bomb is programmed to self-detonate in 23 hours, unless The Batman can escape "Hell On Earth", find it and transport it back to the Wayne Manor where Fox (MorganFreeman) can deactivate the device. Can The Batman Escape his seemingly impenetrable prison, or will Bane strike him down along with Gotham’s only hope for survival?

What really stood out to me about “The Dark Knight Rises” is the phenomenal acting from the entire cast. The entire cast’s performance was near perfect; something rarely seen in cinema, there wasn't a single weak link. To be honest, initially I couldn't see Tom Hardy filling the role of
Bane because of his previous poor performances, the fact that acting the Bane seemed like an exceptionally demanding role, not to mention he would have to follow Heath ledger's legendary role as The Joker. However, I stand corrected. Tom Hardy was exceptional as Bane, although the ribbon for best acting (in my opinion) goes to Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Officer Blake). The rich storyline was fantastic, continuing eight years after “The Dark Knight” left off. There were multiple plots interweaving each other throughout the entire film. Tension continually builds throughout the film all tying together at the end making for an intense and unforgettable climax and farewell to The Dark Knight trilogy.

When I found out that Christopher Nolan would be directing, I almost hit the roof with excitement. I knew that meant pristine special effects and tons of action, and boy was I right. “The Dark Knight Rises” set a new standard for the term “action packed”. Nearly every ten minutes there was at least one brutal fight scene, and at one point a scene involving over 1,500 of Gotham’s citizens all pounding on each other. “The Dark Knight Rises” includes unsurpassed special effects, from flying vehicles to realistic mind-boggling explosions. Though it was a spectacular film, I have to confess I was a little underwhelmed. It just didn’t seem to live up to the “greatness” of its predecessors. Don’t mistake me for saying it disappointed me; it was truly a terrific film. However it just had such high expectations to conclude the trilogy, I don’t think any film could have fulfilled what we were all hoping for. But never the less an excellent film and definitely worth viewing, easily one of the best films of the year so far. On a scale of evening price, matinee price, wait for it on DVD, or skip it; I rate it worth the evening price, and easily worthy of four and a half stars.
